Crystalline glazing is a tremendously exciting and wildly unpredictable process! Just like the gems that are found in nature, the slightest change in temperature, chemistry, and other factors can change the appearance of the crystals.
This type of glaze is extremely difficult to produce, and very few potters work with this technique. It requires carefully constructed glaze recipes, firing schedules, application techniques, and a whole lot of luck.
All of our pieces are hand thrown or slab formed and each is truly one of a kind. The crystals are permanent and will not fade or change over time. Closeups of crystals grown on actual pieces are shown below.
